Banana Pudding

At Mr. Barbecue, we make banana pudding the old-fashioned way, from scratch, just like Southern cooks have always done it.

We start with a creamy vanilla custard cooked until it’s smooth, rich, and full of real flavor. That warm custard gets poured over vanilla wafers, so they soften up and release their sweetness, turning every bite into that classic banana pudding texture you’re hoping for.

We add the bananas once the custard cools slightly, because too much heat can change their color and dull their flavor. This way, they stay bright, sweet, and fresh, blending perfectly with the custard and wafers.

We serve our banana pudding warm for two reasons: cold can mute the flavor, and we want you to taste that it’s truly made from scratch.

To finish it off, we whip egg whites and sugar into a fluffy meringue topping, then toast it in the oven until the top turns golden brown and beautiful.

It’s creamy, comforting, and it’s the kind of dessert that makes people go back for “just one more bite,” so make sure you save room!

Mr. Barbecue Peach Cobbler

If you grew up around Southern cooking, you know peach cobbler isn’t just dessert: it’s tradition, and it has been with Mr. Barbecue since we opened in 1962.

We start ours the right way by sautéing peach slices in a saucepan with sugar and a pinch of salt until the sugar melts down and the peaches soften. This quick step draws out the peach flavor and creates a sweet, warm sauce that tastes like summer!

Next comes the batter: flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt, mixed together and finished with buttermilk for our rich, homemade taste. While we’re mixing, a pan of butter goes into the oven to melt and coat the bottom, giving the cobbler a golden, buttery finish.

Then it’s simple: batter goes into the pan, peaches go on top, and the oven does the rest. As it bakes, the batter rises up around the peaches and turns perfectly golden, with a soft center and just the right amount of crisp around the edges.
